DEMOREST, Ga. - Piedmont women's lacrosse left no doubt in a 23-0 shutout of Huntingdon on a sunny Saturday afternoon in USA South Tournament First Round action in Demorest.

Merryn Bumpass' five-goal performance highlighted the day as the senior became the program's all-time leading goal scorer in her final home game. The senior from Keller, Texas opened the scoring just over 20 seconds into the game and eventually broke the record with her fifth and final goal, coming early in the second half.

After the Lions trounced the Hawks in the regular season 24-1 at the WAC, they jumped out to an early cushion, getting to a running clock with a 10-0 lead at the 4:19 mark of the opening quarter and leading 13-0 after the first 15 minutes.

Although Bumpass led the way with five goals, a trio of Lions also tallied hat tricks with Clara Welch, Savannah Limehouse and Laura Crone scored three apiece.

All-time program assist leader Aly Reece and Carson Bezold shared the wealth all day, with both tallying six assists while Ava Trankina added five assists to go with a pair of goals

Piedmont played stifling defense as well, holding the Hawks to just 1-of-20 on clear attempts in the game. The Lions forced 28 Huntingdon turnovers and did not allow a shot on goal.

Up next, the Lions will move to the USA South Tournament semifinals and take on No. 3 seed Methodist, which dominated No. 6 seed Greensboro for a 24-1 win. The semifinals and final will be played at Meredith College, as the Avenging Angels earned the top seed for the tournament.

TURNING POINT:
- Piedmont erased all doubt with a 13-goal opening quarter.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Bumpass came into the game needing five goals for the program record and had the job done by early in the second half.
- After reaching the 100-career point mark in the regular season finale, Bezold led the team with eight points in Saturday's win.

NEWS AND NOTES:
- This marks Piedmont's second consecutive shutout and third of the season.
