FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - It took extra innings to decide Sunday's series finale at Methodist, but it was the Monarchs who outlasted the Lions as Piedmont baseball dropped an 11-10 contest Sunday in 10 innings.

It was an offensive affair as the two teams combined for 21 runs on 28 hits. The scoring began early with both teams putting up a four spot in the second inning.

Piedmont scored four runs on five hits in the second inning while Methodist scored four on three hits and an error. Piedmont stole the lead in the fourth after a walk and a single allowed for a double steal to put two in scoring position.

Jack Ryan used a sac fly to drive in Cody Funk giving Piedmont the 5-4 advantage. Methodist answered one inning later to tie the game in the fifth after another Lions error.

Methodist took control of the game in the home half of the sixth to lead 8-5, but the Lions were quick to answer in the seventh before the stretch with their own crooked number scoring three to tie.

With the game knotted at eight, Jackson Randolph entered to pitch for the Lions and allowed just one hit while working a 1-2-3 inning in the eighth and ninth frames. In the 10th, after back-to-back outs to start the inning, Piedmont rallied for three straight singles and an error to score two and lead 10-8.

In the home half, Braden Simms entered to try and close out the contest, but the Monarchs loaded the bases with one away and an error on a fielder's choice allowed two to score and tie the contest. With two away, a single proved to be the game winner for Methodist.

Up next, the Lions will return home to face another former USA South conference foe in Brevard Tuesday at 4 p.m.
