LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - Piedmont women's tennis continued its domination of the CCS, rolling to a 7-0 sweep at Covenant on Friday evening on Lookout Mountain.
The Lions won all three doubles matches in quick succession to take the opening 1-0 lead before cruising to all six singles wins in clinical fashion.
First, it was the senior duo of
Bri Laidman and
Dannie Evans that clinched a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles before the No. 3 team of
Alyssa McSpadden and
Sarah Sanabia ensured a 1-0 lead with a 6-0 victory at No. 3. The duo of McSpadden and Sanabia have not dropped a game in each of their past two matches together.
Finally, even with the point clinched, two-time CCS Doubles Team of the Week pairing
Sarah Row and
Jordan Ballard added a 6-2 win at No. 1 for good measure.
Already with the momentum on their side, the Lions did not let up in singles, as
Olivia Carpenter did not drop a single game in a flawless 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 to make it 2-0 in favor of Piedmont.
Then, it was McSpadden's turn, as the senior rolled 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 to put the Lions within a point of clinching the match. That clinch came from Ballard, who lost just one game on her way to a 6-1, 6-0 match-clinching victory.
Laidman then won, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 to move to tie Ballard and McSpadden with her 11th dual singles win of the season. The trio has combined to lose just twice, with McSpadden and Laidman each dropping just one match while Ballard is a perfect 11-0.
The final two matches saw Piedmont put the finishing touches on their dominant performance, with Evans winning 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5 before the freshman
Caroline Morrison delivered a 7-5, 6-0 victory, dominating in the second set after a hard-fought opening set.
Up next, the Lions will take on No. 20 Sewanee on the road Saturday.
