DEMOREST, Ga. - Offense continued to roll for the Lions with another double-digit scoring performance as Piedmont defeated Asbury 12-6 in the series opener Friday. The Lions have scored 10 or more seven times now this season.
Zeke Swartz earned the start for Piedmont as the game was scoreless until the third inning when a hit by pitch followed by a double led to the first run for the Eagles.
That lead was short-lived as the Lions came to life in the bottom of the fourth. Piedmont scored five runs on three hits and three walks in the inning to take a 5-1 lead.
Piedmont scored in each inning from then on until the eighth with another offensive outburst in the seventh bringing in four runs. The Lions worked out of a pair of pickle situations caught up on the basepaths but did not see an out result from either play.
The Eagles used a total of six pitchers in the contest with no one throwing more than 1.2 innings in relief. There were a total of nine walks issued to the Lions and three hit by pitches.
Up next, the Lions will conclude the series against Asbury Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.

- A five-spot from the Lions in the fourth inning brought the offense to life.

Ben Connelly led the Lions with four RBI as he was 2-for-4 from the plate scoring twice himself.

Zeke Swartz earned the win to move to 3-1 this season tossing 5.1 innings allowing three earned runs and struck out five.
- Four Lions posted multi-hit games.
