ATLANTA - Piedmont women's tennis made quick work of Oglethorpe, cruising to a 7-0 win on Wednesday evening in Atlanta.
The Lions dropped just two total games across the three doubles matches and won all six singles lines in straight sets for the sweep.
The duo of
Abby Gayle Moody and
Caroline Morrison clinched first at No. 3 doubles with a 6-0 win. Then, it was a race for the clinch, which was won by the No. 2 team of
Alyssa McSpadden and
Bri Laidman 6-1.
With the point clinched, two-time CCS Doubles Team of the Week
Sarah Row and
Jordan Ballard also won 6-1 to keep the momentum on Piedmont's side heading to singles.
Singles action saw more Piedmont domination, with the Lions dropping just five total games across the six matches.
Ballard clinched first, cruising 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 to make it 2-0 Piedmont. Then, it was Laidman's turn, not dropping a single game in a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 2. Laidman pushed her dual singles record to 10-1 on the season.
Then, it was freshman
Emily Gonzalez who won the race for the clinch, winning 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6 singles for her first career dual singles win.
Leading 4-0, the final three matches quickly came to a conclusion, with Row (6-0, 6-0) not dropping a game at No. 4, followed by a 6-1, 6-0 win from McSpadden at the top spot.
Senior
Hollan Rabensdorf ended the festivities for the second straight match, putting the finishing touches on the 7-0 shutout with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 5.
Up next, the Lions will head to the road this weekend, battling Covenant this Friday, March 28 at 5:30 p.m.
