DEMOREST, Ga. - Piedmont softball extended its win streak to 10 with a doubleheader sweep of Centre on Wednesday. The Lions took game one in six innings 8-0 and claimed a 9-1 win in game two.
Game 1: Piedmont 8, Centre 0 (F/6)
It was a slower start in game one with a run in both the first and second innings before three runs in the third sealed it was all Lions.
Hannah Cintron had an RBI bunt single to score
Jasmine Lowery in the third before
Madi Cronic had a two RBI double making it 5-0 Piedmont.
Piedmont was quiet offensively until the sixth inning when the bats came to life again. Cronic singled to start the inning followed by a
Kennedy Votava single to put two on. A double steal by pinch runner
Madison Hawkins and Votava combined with an error allowed one to score and
Heartly Nepveux singled to send home Votava.
Needing just one to force the run-rule victory, pinch hitter
Addy Perkins was called upon and delivered with a double to left sending home Nepveux for the game-winning run.
Megan Steinmeyer tossed another gem going the complete game six innings with three hits. She walked just one batter and struck out four.
Cronic was one of five Lions to post a multi-hit game as she led the pack with three RBI. The Lions had 12 hits to Centre's three.
Game 2: Piedmont 9, Centre 1
Game two got off to a hot start as the Lions put up a four spot in the home half of the first. A sac fly from
Maddi Spieks drove in
Mandi Peretti while a bunt double from
Hannah Cintron brought across the second run of the frame.
Madi Cronic doubled to right center bringing around two more accounting for her fourth and fifth RBI of the day. In the second, the bats were still hot with a Steinmeyer sac fly bringing in Peretti to make it 5-0.
Centre answered back with a run in the third inning off
Taylor Spivey but Piedmont also tacked one more on in that frame to lead 6-1.
In the sixth,
Rylie Erickson crushed a triple to right center in a pinch hitting appearance to score two and put
Lea Smith in position for the game winner driving in Erickson.
Spivey earned the win going six innings allowing three hits and one unearned run while striking out six.
Up next, the Lions will be back in conference play on the road at Covenant Saturday.
TURNING POINT:
- It was an offensive sixth inning that led to the run rule victory thanks to three runs on four hits and one error for the Lions.
- A hot start with four runs in the first was enough to propel the Lions to the doubleheader sweep.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:

Madi Cronic went 4-for-5 on the day with a total of five RBI with three in game one and two in game two.

Jasmine Lowery led the team with five hits on the day going 3-for-4 in game two.
