DEMOREST, Ga. - On a day in which it honored seven seniors, Piedmont women's lacrosse left no doubt in a 23-4 win against Southern Virginia on Saturday afternoon in Demorest.

Rachel Verner for their contributions to the program.

Once the contest began, Piedmont was able to establish control early, scoring in the first 20 seconds and two more times in the first four minutes. The Lions scored 12 times overall in the first quarter, getting the game to a running clock the rest of the way.Â
Although the scoring barrage slowed in the second half, the game was out of reach, as Piedmont iced away the clock to win its fifth consecutive contest and third in a row to start conference play.
Savannah Limehouse was all over the field Saturday, scoring three goals and and adding an assist while also contributing five ground balls, a career-high five caused turnovers and four draw controls.
Clara Welch continued her strong play of late, scoring four goals and adding three assists for a team-high seven points. Trankina added four goals and an assist along with a team-high seven draw controls.
Merryn Bumpass and
Lovette Choloh added three goals apiece while the senior Moreland contributed a season-high two goals while also adding an assist and a pair of caused turnovers.
Verner earned the start in goal and made three saves while
Ansli Cannon entered in the second half, also making three saves.
Up next, the Lions will step out of conference, hosting Buffalo State this coming Wednesday, March 19 at 3 p.m..
TURNING POINT:
- Piedmont blitzed the Knights out of the gate, scoring 12 times in the opening quarter and never looking back.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Welch paced the team with seven total points (4 g, 3 ast).
- Limehouse added a fantastic all-around performance, with three goals, one assist, five caused turnovers, five ground balls and four draw controls.

- After losing the first three contests in the series, Piedmont has now taken two in a row against Southern Virginia.
