ORLANDO, Fla. - Piedmont men's tennis was unable to fend off No. 40 Carthage in a 6-1 loss Wednesday night to conclude their action in Orlando.

The loss gives the Lions a 4-2 record on the trip, with the only two losses to nationally ranked teams.

Yannick Wassmer Navarro continued his outstanding work in singles, winning a hard-fought first set before blanking his opponent in the second for a 7-6 (2), 6-0 victory. The Madrid, Spain native has won three singles matches in a row.

Otherwise, it was all Firebirds as singles was played first in this match. Piedmont fell in straight sets iin five of the six matches to allow Carthage to clinch before doubles was contested.

The Firebirds were able to win at No. 5, No. 5 and No. 6 singles to clinch at 4-0.

They were also able to win at No. 4 and No. 3 with Wassmer Navarro's win at No. 1 sandwiched in between.

Doubles action saw Wassmer Navarro team with JC Foster at No. 3 to give Piedmont hope to take another point at the end. However, the Firebirds were able to win 6-4 at No. 1 and then 7-6 (5) in a battle at No. 2 to conclude the match.

Up next, the Lions will be back in action at home, hosting Maryville on Saturday, March 22 at 11 a.m.
