CENTRAL, S.C. - Piedmont men's and women's track & field opened its 2025 outdoor season at the Southern Wesleyan University / Susan Rouse Invite on Saturday in Central, South Carolina.
Competing in only field events, it was a solid all around day for both sides, with a win, two records and 15 total PR's.
On the men's side, the meet was highlighted by a pair of throw records, with
Matthew Blocksom delivering a 40.29m in the discus and
Jayden Smith a 14.31m toss in the shot put.
On the women's side, it was more success in the discus for a Lion, as
Allie Feltus won the event at 35.71m, just ahead of teammate
Shealee Gallegos, who finished second at 34.14m.
Overall, Piedmont delivered 17 top-10 finishes over the 10 total events in which they competed.
Numerous Lions delivered solid performances in the their outdoor debuts. The pole vault saw a top five on both the men's and women's side as
Hagan Schamberger (4.05m) took 2nd for the men while
Haley McLeer took 4th (2.62m) on the women's side.
Smith's 14.31m toss gives him his first outdoor school record after a number of record-breaking performances during the indoor season. His toss in the shot put was good enough for second place in tht event.
In the women's hammer, newcomer
KK Thomas placed second with a throw of 39.68m) while Feltus (36.02m) and Gallegos (8th) each delivered top 10's.
The men's hammer also saw a second place finish from a Piedmont newcomer as
George Ketch finished second with a throw of 46.70m.
Up next, the Lions will be in action next Saturday, March 8 at the Victor Ice Breaker Duals in Mt. Berry, Georgia.
