DEMOREST, Ga. - Piedmont men's tennis opened its spring 2025 home slate on a sunny and windy Thursday afternoon in Demorest and delivered a 7-0 sweep of Truett McConnell.

The Lions jumped on the Bears with a pair of quick doubles wins to take the 1-0 lead and carried that momentum into singles, rolling to three decisive straight set wins to clinch at 4-0.

With the match in hand, Piedmont added three more two-set wins to cap off the 7-0 shutout.

The duo of Simon Johnstone and Caleb McElveen cruised to a 6-2 win at No. 3 to put the Lions within one of the remaining two to take the doubles point. That win came quickly in the form of another 6-2 triumph, this time by Leyton Dunn and Connor Phelps at No. 1.

Then, playing together for the first time as doubles partners, Yannick Wassmer Navarro and JC Foster added a 6-4 win at No. 2 for good measure heading into singles.

Wassmer Navarro then cruised to a quick 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 to make 2-0 in favor of Piedmont. Then, the bottom of the lineup got involved, with freshman Artiom Anzhilov rolling to a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 6.

Then, it was another freshman who delivered the clinch, as Horacio Rodriguez closed the door 6-4, 6-1, with a dominant second set to make it a 4-0 clinch for the Lions.

With the outcome in hand, three more Lions pulled off wins to wrap up the festivities as Phelps cruised at No. 3 (6-3, 6-1) to improve to 4-0 in dual singles matches this season.

Rohan Kavali polished off a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 2 while Johnstone capped the match with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 5.

Up next, Piedmont will travel to Jackson, Mississippi to open CCS play at Belhaven this Saturday, March 1 at 2 p.m.
