Records: Piedmont, 1-3; Hendrix, 2-3

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - In a match that came down to a third set tiebreaker to decide, the Piedmont men's tennis team was unable to pull out a victory against Hendrix, falling 4-3.

Hendrix jumped out in front quickly with a win at No. 3 doubles, 6-1, and sealed the doubles point with a win at No. 1, 6-2. Piedmont was able to take no. 2 as Yannick Wassmer Navarro and Mark Backeberg won 6-4.

With the Warriors leading 1-0 after doubles, Piedmont was able to bounce back and even the score a 2-2 after Wassmer Navarro lost at No. 1 singles 6-3, 6-0 but Rohan Kavali put Piedmont on the board with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 5. Horacio Rodriguez followed that with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 6 to even the score.

Mark Backeberg pulled Piedmont ahead 3-2 with a 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 2 giving the Lions life. It came down to Bryce VanOrder and Charles Parnell at 3 & 4 respectively.

VanOrder could not keep pace at No. 3 falling 6-2, 6-4 but Parnell kept hope alive. Despite losing the first set 4-6, he bounced back to take the second 6-3 and force a tiebreaker. Hendrix's Santiago Perez emerged victorious 10-7 in the breaker to seal the win for his squad.

Up next, the Lions will open spring action at home against Truett McConnell Thursday at 3 p.m.
