ATLANTA, Ga. - The Piedmont women's lacrosse team earned a come-from-behind win on Wednesday to open the 2025 season at Oglethorpe, 18-13. The Lions trailed 8-6 at the half and used a seven goal third period to take the lead and cruise to victory. 

Oglethorpe opened the game with a pair of goals before Piedmont responded as Merryn Bumpass scored the first goal of the season for the Lions. 

Ava Trankina scored her first of five goals in the game to even it up at 4-4 in the waning minutes of the first period, but Oglethorpe scored just 12 seconds later to reclaim the lead, 5-4. 

At the half, the Stormy Petrels led 8-6 and increased their lead to 10-7 in the opening minutes of the third period. That sparked a run for the Lions as Piedmont scored five unanswered to take the lead 12-10. 

Piedmont outscored Oglethorpe 12-5 in the second half. Trankina led Piedmont with five goals in the season opener while Lovette Choloh added four. 

Up next, Piedmont will be in action on the road at Reinhardt on Saturday at 11 a.m.

TURNING POINT:
--Piedmont used a strong second half to outscore the Stormy Petrels 12-5 to claim the win. 

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
--Ava Trankina led Piedmont with five goals on five shots while Laura Crone led Piedmont with three assists. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
--In total, six different Lions scored in the 2025 opener.
