LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - The Piedmont men's basketball team could not keep pace with Covenant in a 97-85 loss on the road Tuesday. The Lions trailed by as few as five in the second half but a 13-2 run by the Scots separated the two teams late.

In the first half, that early nine point lead was the most the Scots would manage as Piedmont reeled off nine straight to claim the lead, 28-27, with 6:45 to play till the half.

At the break, the Scots held a 45-38 advantage and worked ahead to a double-digit lead in the opening minutes of the second half.

The Lions continued to claw getting it back to a single digit deficit and cut it to as few as five multiple times. Trailing 71-66 with 9:16 to play, the Scots used a 13-2 run to break the contest open and seal this one.

Piedmont was able to get as close as nine in the final minutes but the Scots used free throws to seal it at the end with their last basket from the floor coming at the 6:20 mark.

Next, the Lions will take on LaGrange Saturday on the road at 4 p.m.
