Men's Basketball Drops Tight Home Contest to Brevard 81-77

NEED TO KNOW
Score: Brevard 81, Piedmont 77
Records: Piedmont, 3-2; Brevard 3-3

DEMOREST, Ga.— The Lions rallied hard late but ultimately fell to the Brevard Tornadoes Tuesday evening by a final score of 81-77.

Piedmont's slow start became their undoing as Brevard raced to an early lead in the first half after a 15-5 run posted by the Tornadoes. The Lions struggled to find the bottom of the basket all the first half from three-point range as well as at the free throw line and battled consistent turnovers that led to instant Brevard offense.

Israel Hall and Grady Robertson's efforts in the first half kept the Lions close going into halftime.

Piedmont would come out of the locker room hot and chipped into the Brevard lead, bringing the game to within five points in the first five minutes of the half. However, the Tornadoes were continuous with their scoring, setting a tough to match pace for the Lions to contend with.

With 4:45 remaining on the clock, the Lions would bring the deficit to nine after a pair of free throws from Silas Mulligan, bringing the score to 71-61. The Lions would pick up the pace for an exciting finish as they tallied 17 points leading to the final 30 seconds and a final timeout from head coach JC Cavin. With the most momentum of the game, the Lions prepared for their final attack. With the tension high and Brevard playing great defense in the paint, the Lions tipped the ball out of bounds for one final costly turnover and Brevard ended the game at the foul line ending the Lions' three game win streak with a final score of 81-77.

It wasn't the best night for Piedmont, who struggled to get the offense going early on, leading to a heartbreaker in Cave Arena.Piedmont will be back in action against Baptist University of Fla. this Saturday, Dec. 6th, at 4 p.m.

TURNING POINT:
- An early ten point lead put together by Brevard that the Lions would not be able to catch.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Israel Hall led the team with 24 points shooting 52.6% from the field.
