DEMOREST, Ga. – With the elevation of Joseph Garwood to the director role, it left an open spot for a new face at Piedmont, but it wouldn't be an unfamiliar one. New Assistant Director of Athletic Communications Eric Edmonson has joined the communications team, returning to Piedmont.  

Edmonson recently graduated from Piedmont in the spring of 2025 with a degree in sports communications after transferring in 2023 from Gordon State College. When arriving at Piedmont, Edmonson made an impact on the broadcast and showed potential in the communications field.   

"We're thrilled to have Eric back on board," Garwood said. "He was an integral part of our student team and always demonstrated professionalism, creativity and a genuine passion for storytelling. I have no doubt he'll make an immediate impact as we continue to grow our coverage and content across all sports."

He has five years of hands-on experience in sports media. He began his career at Gordon State College, producing live streams and providing commentary for campus athletics. He has also worked several seasons with collegiate summer baseball teams within their media and public relations fields. With this he has developed a versatile skill set that includes video and sound editing, social media management, and audio content creation—earning national recognition in podcasting.

"Piedmont taught me so much when I transferred here," Edmonson said. "I'm so honored to be back. The work that this department does is truly the class of DIII, and I cannot wait to contribute and add to that great work." 

Edmonson is a graduate of both Gordon State College in 2023 and Piedmont University in 2025.
