Lady Lions Earn 3-0 Win Against Johnson and Wales

Women's soccer battled the elements but prevailed to a fifth straight win

Score: Piedmont 3, Johnson and Wales 0

DEMOREST, GA -The Lions continue to roll as they notched their fifth win in a row against non-conference opponent Johnson and Wales.

It wasn't the brightest day at the WAC as both teams battled the elements of rain and wind, but the Lions bested the Wildcats, turning in their second home win in a row.

It was a freshman who got the scoring started for Piedmont, as in the eleventh minute the Lions would set up for a free kick just outside the box. The kick would find its way into a flurry of defenders until Lora Kim found the ball. A Wildcat defender positioned to block the shot, but the laser from Kim proved too much, as the deflection only led to the inevitable goal as Piedmont would take the lead. For Kim it was a goal to remember, as it marked the first of her college career.

The Lions would not look back as they continued with a strong front and middle field throughout the rest of the first half, but unfortunately they would be unable to find the back of the net once again and would have to wait until the second half of action.

As the teams began to enter halftime, the rain would pick up, altering the conditions.

Despite a wet pitch, the Lions would not go too far into the second half without getting their next opportunity, as with 34:28 left on the clock, Sophie Wells would be fouled in the box, setting up for a PK. The senior star would line up for the kick and send it to the left of the keeper on a soft touch to bring in Piedmont's second score of the afternoon. This would be Wells' first goal of the year and the second of her career.

The Lions' onslaught wouldn't stop there as they continued to threaten the scoreboard throughout, but they would be denied until the 88th minute when Peyton Gates would launch a cross into the box for Madison Johnson to fire a shot off of the crossbar. The Wildcat keeper would attempt a save but would be unable to contain the ball as Sierra Judson would swoop in for the final touch and send it through for the final score of the afternoon. The senior continues a great career at Piedmont, as this marked her fourth goal of the season and her 22nd in the green and gold.

The match would conclude shortly after with the Lions once again coming away with the victory.

During this recent five-game win streak Piedmont has shut out their opponent in all contests, including two conference foes.
