DEMOREST, Ga. - Piedmont women's soccer closed out its regular season CCS and home slate in style on Sunday afternoon, taking down Asbury 1-0 on a chilly and cloudy day in Demorest.
Sophomore
Madison Johnson unleashed a perfectly placed free kick from deep in the 61st minute and the Lions played stifling defense all day to hold the Eagles off the scoreboard and take the victory by a 1-0 margin.

With one regular season game left to play, the Lions have banked 14 wins in 2025, the most since also winning 14 in 2019.
Playing for the first time in over a week, it was a slow offensive start for the Lions. However, the defense was a factor from the very beginning, making it difficult on Asbury to create good scoring chances.
As the intensity ramped up in the second half, a foul drawn in a generally non-threatening area led to Johnson's free kick that found the top right corner of the net, just beyond the grasp of the Asbury goalkeeper.
From there, the Lions withstood a few good chances from the Eagles with
Hannah Thompson playing the second half and earning the win in goal.
With the CCS regular season now in the books, the Lions have secured the No. 3 seed and the right to host a CCS Tournament First Round matchup next Saturday, Nov. 1.
Piedmont is set to welcome No. 6 seed LaGrange to the WAC. Game time has yet to be determined.
TURNING POINT:
- Johnson's 61st minute free kick goal turned out to be the only goal the Lions needed.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- With the goal, Johnson has five on the season, which ranks second on the team. She also now leads the team with 13 points.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Although Piedmont led just 11-8 in total shots, it enjoyed a 7-1 advantage in shots on target.
NEWS AND NOTES:
- The last time the Lions hosted a CCS Tournament First Round matchup was 2023, in which they also took on LaGrange. Piedmont ultimately prevailed 2-1 in the contest.
