BELMONT, N.C. - Piedmont women's tennis closed out its fall campaign this past weekend, taking on tough competition at the Belmont Abbey Invite.
Facing a number of Division II opponents as well as former USA South foes Methodist and Averett, the Lions were able to finish off the fall in strong fashion, picking up six singles wins and six doubles wins over the two days.
The wealth was spread out in singles as six different athletes picked up a win, highlighted by senior dual-sport athlete
Amanda Barrett concluded her Piedmont tennis career with a two-set victory, winning 6-0 in the first set before a dramatic second set victory to close out the match in a tiebreak.
Freshman
Ella Kate Canaday continued her impressive fall season, winning in straight sets in one match and falling in a third-set breaker for a 1-1 weekend in singles.
Elsewhere,
Jordan Ballard,
Emily Gonzalez,
Sarah Sanabia and
Addyson Willis each picked up victories.
The Lions tried out numerous doubles combinations, with 14 different teams taking the court over the two days.
The duo of
Halee Harper and Sanabia picked up their team-leading fifth doubles victory of the fall as a team.
Canaday added to her impressive weekend, going 3-0 in doubles, partnering with freshmen
Kaleigh Stallworth and
Annalia Small and the senior Ballard.
Stallworth won twice in doubles, also winning with Small as well as Canaday.
The end of the tournament concludes the fall season for the Lions. Piedmont totaled 52 singles wins and 24 doubles victories over four tournaments played.
