MT. BERRY, Ga. - The Lions fell to non-conference rival Berry on Monday evening.
Berry set the tone early and kept up a relentless push that the Lions were unable to stop throughout the full 90 minutes.
The Vikings wasted no time in the contest, jumping on the Lions early with a goal in the second minute of play.
Berry would extinguish most, if not all, of the Lions' attacks as the Vikings kept the ball around midfield and in Piedmont's own territory.
The defense for the Lions was staunch throughout the rest of the first half as they kept the Vikings from a second score going into the half.
Coming out of halftime, before the Lions' defense could get settled in, Berry scored early once more with 45:27 on the clock.
The Vikings would tack on a late goal in the 85th minute to make it a 3-0 game. This would be the final tally of the contest as Berry finished a shutout on their home turf.
Piedmont would keep pace with the Vikings in the shooting category as they finished with 13 shots to Berry's 21. The Lions could not find their way to the back of the net despite 7 of their 13 shots being on goal.
Piedmont will look to bounce back for this weekend's CCS match-up against the Hawks of Huntingdon Saturday the 18th at the WAC at 3:00 p.m.
TURNING POINT:
- Berry's first half goal which became the game winner.
