DEMOREST, Ga. -The Lady Lions returned home for the first time since early Sept. and roared to a 4-0 victory against the Wesleyan Wolves, shutting them out and picking up their first conference win of the season.
After opening the conference schedule 0-2, it was a much-needed get-well game for the Lions, as they were able to deliver two goals in the first half and two in the second, with the last being scored within the final minute of action.
The Lions dominated in all facets of the game, out-shooting the Wolves 55-1 while keeping the ball mostly in Wesleyan territory.
In the sixteenth minute, when Taylor Crawford booted one off the top of the crossbar for a near goal, Savannah Jerome was positioned well as she sent it to the back to get the scoring started.
The Lions continued the attack throughout the first half but with banging shots off the posts and sending them too tall the score remained the same. Sophie Wells found herself in Wesleyan territory all night and applied pressure, but towards the end of the first half, she was fouled in the box, setting up a PK that would be taken by fellow senior Hannah Thompson. Thompson was given a rare opportunity to play the field as opposed to being in net, and she wouldn't waste the chance, scoring the second goal of the game and her first as a collegiate athlete.
Head coach Timmy McCormack would unload the bench going into the second half, giving way for Megan Gates to knock in the game's third score, assisted by Jordyn Harris.
As the final seconds ticked down, Piedmont would find another goal on the way out of the door as Sophie Wells snuck through the Wolves' defense, forcing their keeper to make a blocking save, setting up Genesis Gamez for the perfect shot.
Piedmont ended the night in dominant fashion as they look to improve going deeper into the conference season.
The Women's Soccer team will have a day's rest before traveling to Huntingdon for another CCS showdown in Montgomery, Ala. On Friday Oct. 3rd at 7 p.m.
