SEWANEE, Tenn. - In a step outside conference play, the Piedmont men's basketball team could not hold on in the second half in a 77-69 loss at Sewanee. The Lions led 38-35 at the break but were outscored by 11 in the second half. 

The Lions jumped out in front by five a few times in the first half, but Sewanee continually fought back to tie the contest. With 6:13 to play till halftime, the Tigers took their first lead of the game, but back-to-back 3-pointers by Fisher Darden and Griffin Neville gave the Lions the lead again. 

Piedmont held on to that lead at the break 38-35, but it remained a tight contest in the second half. Sewanee pulled ahead and used a 14-4 run to lead 60-48 and create space. 

The Lions pulled as close as within two but could not take the lead again in the contest. 

Piedmont had just four attempts from the free throw line in the contest, finishing 1-for-4 and was outscored by Sewanee by 10 at the charity stripe.

Up next, the Lions will return home to host Huntingdon on Thursday at 6 p.m.

TURNING POINT:
- The Tigers used a 14-4 run to take a 12-point lead midway through the second half and held on for the victory. 

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Fisher Darden led Piedmont with his 16 points as three of the Lions' starters scored in double digits. 

NEWS AND NOTES:
- This marked Piedmont's final road non-conference game of the season.
