WILMORE, Ky. - The Piedmont women's basketball team was unable to overcome a slow start against Asbury, snapping its win streak and taking the first loss in conference play in a 71-64 defeat against the Eagles Saturday.
Alexandria Willis and
Andelin Hill both posted double-doubles in the contest as Willis led with 15 points while Hill had a team-high 13 rebounds. The Piedmont starters accounted for all but 15 points in the game.
Piedmont saw just 32 minutes off the bench with
Brooklyn Begley scoring 13 while making three 3-pointers. Piedmont as a whole had just four 3-pointers in the game.
The Lions managed just seven points in the opening quarter but only trailed 14-7. Piedmont was held scoreless from the floor for the final six minutes of the first quarter with three free throws during that time.
In the second period, the Eagles distanced themselves building as much as a 17 point lead to ultimately take a 38-25 lead into the break.
Piedmont held tough in the third quarter as it was evenly matched with both teams scoring 14 points, but the comeback was too late with the Lions outscoring the Eagles 25-19 in the final period.
Up next, Piedmont will host Agnes Scott on Tuesday, January 28th at 5 p.m.

Alexandria Willis and
Andelin Hill posted double-doubles as Willis scored 15 points with 11 rebounds while Hill led the team with 13 rebounds and added 14 points.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- The Lions out-rebounded Asbury 45-22 including posting 25 offensive rebounds to the Eagles' six.
