DEMOREST, Ga. - Piedmont women's basketball bounced back with a comfortable 73-56 home win over Agnes Scott on Tuesday night inside Cave Arena.
The Lions led most of the way, stifling the Scotties offense in the opening quarter and withstanding a second quarter run before pulling away again in the second half.
Brooklyn Begley continued her outstanding work against the Scotties, pouring in a career-high 24 points and a career-best six three-pointers. Although Begley was the only Lion in double figures, 13 different players found the scoring column in the game.
Ava Hunter was dominant on the glass, pulling down a season-high 11 rebounds in just 18 minutes of action off the bench.
As a team, the Lions were dominant on the glass, with a 64-40 rebounding advantage for the contest.
After
Nae-Nae Eades opened the scoring in the first minute, the Scotties answered with a three-pointer to take a 3-2 lead. However, the Lions then shut Agnes Scott's offense down the rest of the quarter, holding them scoreless until the 8:40 mark of the second quarter.
ASC did battle back in the second quarter, using a 10-1 run to cut the Piedmont lead to 16-13. The Lions responded with a personal 8-0 run by Begley in the final minute of the first half to give them a 38-21 cushion going to the locker room.
Piedmont dominated the third quarter, building its lead back to 22 points (55-33) going to the final 10 minutes. But once again, the Scotties were able to cut into their deficit, although not enough to threaten the final outcome.
Up next, the Lions will return to action this coming Saturday, Feb. 1 at Belhaven.

- Piedmont left no doubt in the opening quarter, holding Agnes Scott to just one field goal to build a 15-3 edge after the opening quarter.
