DEMOREST, Ga. - Piedmont women's soccer opened its 2024 season with a 1-1 draw against Toccoa Falls on a beautiful Wednesday night in Demorest.
In front of a big opening night crowd, the Lions dominated possession and the shot count. However, the Screaming Eagles took advantage of their lone shot on goal of the contest to equalize in the second half.
It did not take the Lions long to strike for their first goal of the season, as sophomore
Taylor Crawford notched her first career goal on a rocket from just outside the box that beat the keeper to the top of the net.
Overall, Piedmont had control of the game in the first half, holding a 13-2 shot advantage.
Coming out of the halftime break, TFC's Maddie DeSilva found her way past the back line and put away the shot to tie the game in the 58th minute.
Despite controlling possession and creating numerous opportunities, Piedmont was not able to find the game winner, thanks to good work in goal by TFC goalkeeper Carien-Marie Benninghaus.
Up next, the Lions will return to action on the road at Oglethorpe on Friday at 7 p.m. before returning home to host MUW at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
