DEMOREST, Ga. – The Piedmont University baseball team has received the 2023-24 Team Academic Excellence Award from the ABCA (American Baseball Coaches Association), the organization announced Wednesday.
 
The honor is earned by teams with GPA's of 3.0 or better in the current academic year and this is the ninth straight season the Lions have received the award.

This comes following a successful season featuring three All-Region honorees and a Gold Glove for senior Trace Cate. The Lions also placed five on the CCS All-Conference listing. 
 
Overall, Piedmont was one of four current CCS schools to earn the award joining new member Asbury, Berea and Covenant.

The American Baseball Coaches Association has a long tradition of recognizing the achievements of baseball coaches and student-athletes. The ABCA/Rawlings All-America Teams are the nation's oldest, founded in 1949, and the ABCA's awards program also includes the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Awards, the ABCA/ATEC Regional & National Coaches of the Year and several other major awards such as the ABCA Hall of Fame and the Dave Keilitz Ethics in Coaching Award.
