Baseball Can't Keep Pace with Maryville in 8-3 Loss

MARYVILLE, Tenn. - The Piedmont University baseball team posted just two less hits than the Maryville Scots but the Scots emerged victorious, handing the Lions an 8-3 loss Friday. 

Piedmont was the first to strike with one run on three hits in the fourth inning and later took a 2-0 lead with another run in the fifth. Isaak Mullanack doubled in the fifth and later scored on a balk. 

The fifth inning though was also when the Scots' offense came to life with four runs on five hits. After eliminating the leadoff batter, Bodie Eilertson was tacked for five straight hits, forcing his final inning of work. 

The Lions totaled 10 hits in the game but had just three after the fifth inning with two in the seventh to drive in an additional run, but that was all the offense could muster. 

The Scots continued to light it up offensively adding runs in the each of the last four innings of play. 

Up next, the Lions and Scots will conclude the regular season with the final game of the series at 1 p.m. Saturday. 

TURNING POINT:
--Maryville's four run fifth inning proved to be the difference in this one. 

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
--Isaak Mullanack was an impressive 4-for-4 at the plate with one run scored.
