SEWANEE, Tenn. - Less than 24 hours after the team's triumphant home win over Covenant Saturday, the Piedmont men's tennis team was unable to contain a tough Sewanee team in a 9-0 road defeat Sunday afternoon.
The nationally-ranked Tigers, who boast a win over then No. 2 WashU earlier this season, were too much for Piedmont, taking all three doubles lines before winning all six singles lines in straight sets.
Doubles action saw the No. 2 team of
Simon Johnstone and
Mark Backeberg put up a fight in an 8-5 loss.
Freshman
Charles Parnell battled in a hard-fought second set in his 6-1, 6-4 defeat at No. 2 while fellow rookie
Brent Sherman also pushed his opponent in the second set of a 6-2, 6-4 loss at No. 5.
With the lead in the current CCS standings, the Lions will be back in action next Saturday, April 13 with matches at Berea and against Asbury.
