Lions Roll to Sweep of Berea with 26-2 Win Sunday in Seven Innings

BEREA, Ky. - The Piedmont baseball team steamrolled Berea on Sunday in a 26-2 victory in seven innings. The Lions scored 26 runs on 22 hits including scoring nine runs in the fifth inning.

Piedmont was unstoppable on Sunday with five runs in the first inning in what would be the most runs scored since 2016 for Piedmont baseball. 

The Lions scored all 26 before the Mountaineers were on the board in a run-rule contest per conference guidelines. 

Piedmont's biggest inning was the fifth where the Lions scored nine runs on six hits. There were a total of 13 walks issued to the Lions. 

Kyle Carlson finished a triple shy of the cycle as the only Lion with a homerun on Sunday, a solo shot to lead off the fourth inning. 

Adam Metivier earned the win for Piedmont pitching five innings allowing just three hits. Nathan Boyce and Justin Manus each pitched an inning of relief with Manus allowing the two earned runs in the seventh. 

Up next, the Lions host Covenant in CCS play on Friday, April 12 at 6 p.m.

TURNING POINT:
--The Lions scored five runs in the first inning to begin Sunday with a bang. 

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
--Three Lions had three hits with both Trace Cate and Kyle Carlson adding three RBI as well. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
--The 26 runs marks the most for Piedmont since a 32-4 win on March 8, 2016 over Emory & Henry at Loudermilk Field.
