CLEVELAND, Tenn. - The Piedmont University track and field program traveled to Tennessee for the Flames Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The meet was highlighted by junior Layton Bradford breaking the school record in the men's 10,000m.
Breaking his previous time of 32:50.44, the Alex City, Ala. native posted a time of 32:36.69 to once again set the school record in the event. Senior Walker Capelle moved to second in school history in the same event, placing just behind Bradford with a 33:03.50. Junior Jadon Gonzales placed behind the pair with a time of 33:38.93, moving him into fourth place all time.
In the women's 400m hurdles, sophomore Michelle Cates placed ninth with a time of 1:10.09. In the men's 110m hurdles, sophomore Silas Goolsby placed fourth with a personal best wind-aided time of 15.05 with senior Garrett Stadler close behind in sixth with a wind-aided personal best (15.51). Stadler and Goolsby flipped placements in the 400m hurdles as Stadler finished ahead in third place with a 56.21 while Goolsby placed tenth with a 58.26. Stadler also went on to claim seventh in the men's high jump as he posted a best height of 1.80m.
Senior Chris Donsereaux secured a top ten finish in the men's 100m, turning in a 10.83 for ninth place as he continues his efforts to break his own school record of 10.78m. Donsereaux also found success in the men's long jump, earning himself sixth place with a best distance of 6.19m.
Earning two top ten finishes, senior Nakiyah Washington placed fourth in the women's shot put and eighth in the women's discus (35.95m). Her distance of 11.79m in the shot put was just 1mm short of tying her school record set in 2021 at the Lee Last Chance meet. Also placing top ten in the women's discus was junior Allie Feltus, who earned fifth place after best toss of 36.62m.
In the women's javelin toss, junior Cortney Brown claimed seventh after a best toss of 31.91m. In the 100m hurdles, she posted a personal best 17.51 which moves her into fifth place all time.
Sophomore Skyler Seeber turned in a PR time in the women's 5000m, running an 18:45.05. The time moves her into third place in school history.
In the men's 4x400m relay, the team of Goolsby, Donsereaux, Stadler and Zane Smith posted a 3:23.40 in sixth place. The time awards the group third fastest in school history. In the women's 4x400m relay, the team of Cates, Brown, Bella Caccamo and Sam Seymour ran a 4:32.80, coming in tenth place.
Up next, both programs travel to Mount Berry for the Berry Field Day Invitational starting on Friday, April 12.
