BEREA, Ky. - The Piedmont University baseball team surrendered just one hit to Berea in a dominating 6-0 win Friday. The pitching staff led by starter
Zeke Swartz was impressive not allowing a single hit until the Mountaineers were down to their final out.
The Lions struck in the fourth inning after a two out rally with two runs on three hits and left the bases loaded.
Kolton Hicks had a 2-RBI single to drive in
Owen Helgesen and
Spencer Muffuletto.
Piedmont went back to work in the fifth and sixth innings adding a single run as Helgesen drove in
Kyle Carlson in the fifth while
Makana Peters had a sac fly in the sixth.
Isaak Mullanack doubled home
Trace Cate in the eighth making it 5-0 and the icing on the cake was Muffaletto scoring on a rundown that caught Hicks at second, but plated the run.
Zeke Swartz continued his impressive season with his third win of the season pitching six innings of scoreless, hitless work. Swartz allowed just four baserunners in the game and struck out nine batters.
Freshman
Tyner Simpson entered and earned the save pitching the final three innings of work. He allowed just one hit with two outs in the ninth and punched out four batters.
Up next, the Lions continue the series at Berea with game two on Saturday at 2 p.m.
