Stadler, Washington Break Records as Track & Field Competes at Cole Piper Open Ahead of CCS Championship

MARYVILLE, Tenn. - The Piedmont University track and field program traveled to Maryville for the Cole Piper Open on Saturday afternoon. Getting an early look at the site of the CCS Championship, senior Garrett Stadler broke the Piedmont record in the men's 400m hurdles with a 54.92. Senior Nakiyah Washington also broke a record for the second week in a row, once again shattering the women's shot put record.

Stadler's time in the men's 400m hurdles makes him the first man in program history to post a time below 55.00 and breaks the record he previously set earlier this season at the Bob Hayes Spring Break Invite by .15 seconds. In addition to his record, he also set a PR distance in the men's javelin with a 42.32m toss, earning him second place.

Washington's 12.52m toss in the women's shot put makes her the first woman in program history to go above 12 meters and breaks her previous record of 11.90m by over half a meter. Sophomore Kayla Ward claimed second at the meet in the event with a 10.47m. Washington went on to post a PR distance of 37.81m in the women's discus.

Senior Gary Halverson won the men's 800m (1:56.94), out pacing second place by just under a second. Halverson did not stop there as he also went on to win the 1500m, narrowly going sub four minutes with a 4:00.76.

Junior Allie Feltus claimed first place in the women's discus, tossing a best distance of 37.87m. Freshman Shealee Gallegos grabbed fourth with a PR (35.47m). Feltus and Washington later went back-to-back, taking second and third after tossing identical distances of 37.76m in the women's hammer. Behind them, sophomore Whitney Darsey and junior Abby Mauldin rounded out the top five with Mauldin in fourth (37.20m) and Darsey in fifth (35.60m).

In the men's discus, freshman Matthew Blocksom placed third with a PR of 38.35m. Freshman Tucker Pulliam earned seventh in the event with a PR of 31.52m. Pulliam also went on to place third in the men's javelin toss with a distance of 41.45m while Blocksom placed directly behind him with a 36.21m.

The Lions claimed second and third place in the women's 800m as sophomore Bella Caccamo earned second with a PR time of 2:29.33 while sophomore Tanea Davis finished directly behind her with a PR time of 2:30.78.

Freshman Ethan Butler-Paige won the men's javelin toss with a distance of 42.39m while also taking third place in the men's hammer toss. His hammer toss PR of 41.07m was followed by a PR from sophomore Kerrigan McClain in sixth (35.39m).

Senior Cortney Brown won the women's javelin toss once again, posting a season best distance of 35.37m. In another season-best performance, she recorded a height of 1.40m in the women's high jump to claim second.

Junior Zane Smith grabbed third place in the men's 200m, turning in a time of 24.23. He followed up the performance by also grabbing fifth place in the 400m with another season-best time (52.88).

Placing first out of three competitors, sophomore Michelle Cates posted a 1:09.59 in the women's 400m hurdles. Senior Sam Seymour placed third while posting a season best time of 1:16.35 at the meet.

In the men's 110m hurdles, sophomore Silas Goolsby posted a season best time of 15.29, taking first place out of four competitors.

Freshman Brooke Benna placed first out two competitors in the women's 100m hurdles, running a 17.87. She also placed third in the women's high jump with a best height of 1.35m.

Earning second place out of four competitors, freshman Keegan Ivey posted a PR time of 10:58.43 in the men's 3000m SC.

Senior Kai Doyle placed first out of five competitors in the women's triple jump with a best jump of 10.46m.

Senior Chris Donsereaux placed third in the men's long jump with a 6.32m distance.

Freshman Zoe Harrison placed third in the women's 100m dash with a 13.40 and earned second in the women's long jump with a 4.68m jump.

With identical season-best heights, senior Wesley Rogers and freshman Colin Hackshaw took third and fourth place in the men's pole vault (3.65m).

In the women's 200m, junior Ileyna Brooks posted a season-best time of 27.81 while placing third in the event.
