2024 Track & Field Senior Spotlight

These 13 seniors have played key roles in the development and progression of the Piedmont University Track & Field program for the past four years. Including multiple record holders, this group will go down in history as having multiple key pieces that led the Lions to the inaugural CCS Championship on both sides in 2023.

REAGHAN ANDERSON | DULUTH, GA

Anderson has been a four-year member of the women's program, competing on the throwers side. She has seen constant growth with the program over time, setting two career bests during the 2023 season. At the CCS Championship last year, Anderson set a new PR in the women's hammer toss with a distance of 33.56m. Reaghan will graduate in spring of 2025 with a degree in athletic training.

RYLEIGH BELL | AMERICUS, GA

Bell is a former track & field athlete turned manager for the program. Originally starting as a distance runner, she transitioned into a manager role to further assist the program. Ryleigh plans to graduate in the spring of 2024 with a degree in exercise and sports science. 

CORTNEY BROWN | SPARTA, GA

Brown is a four year veteran of the program and has had a record-setting career for the Lions. She is both a USA South and CCS Champion in the women's javelin while earning All-Conference honors in the women's 4x400m relay, triple jump and 100m hurdles in 2021. In 2023, Brown earned All-Conference honors in high jump in addition to her two-time CCS Field Athlete of the Week award and an All-Region selection to top it off. This year, she has been just as dominant, earning CCS Weekly honors three times while also becoming the first woman in Piedmont history to compete in the Heptathlon. In the classroom, Brown has excelled to the conference academic team twice in her career. Cortney plans to graduate in the spring of 2024 with a degree in healthcare administration with a minor in general business.

WALKER CAPELLE | AUBURN, GA.

Capelle has been a staple of the distance running team on the men's side of the program for four years. Since arriving in Demorest, he has been one of the top runners in the 3000m, 5000m and 10,000m for the Lions. Early in his career in 2021, Capelle was named to the USTFCCA Indoor All-Region team for his work in the men's DMR. Thus far in 2024, he has set new career bests in the four distance events. Earning Third Team All-Conference honors in 2023, Capelle is poised to make another run at All-Conference honors in 2024. Walker plans to graduate in the spring of 2024 with a degree in business management and return to the program in 2025 while getting his master's.

CHRIS DONSEREAUX | NEW ORLEANS, LA

 A five-year veteran of the program, Donsereaux has had a dominant career for Piedmont in the sprints, jumps and relays. He is a three-time USA South Conference Champion, winning the men's 100m and 200m in 2022 while playing a part in the 4x400m championship in 2021. Donsereaux currently holds the Piedmont record in the men's 60m, 100m and 200m, and 300m. In the classroom, he earned CCS All-Academic team honors in 2023. Chris plans to graduate in the spring of 2024 with a degree in sports communication and a minor in business management.

KAI DOYLE | BUFORD, GA

Doyle has been a standout performer for the Lions since arriving. She has been dominant in both the sprints and jumps, earning USA South First Team All-Conference honors in the 4x400m relay and Third Team honors in the women's triple jump her freshman year. Since then, she has gone on to earn more all-conference nods and claimed the 2023 CCS Triple Jump Championship last season. She is primed to repeat her success from last season and has gone on to set a new PR in the long jump during her 2024 campaign. Getting it done in the classroom as well, Doyle earned USA South All-Academic honors in 2021. Kai plans to graduate in the spring of 2024 with a degree in political science and criminal justice.

WREN GREUBEL | CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA

Greubel is a three-year member of the program, competing on the women's field side since 2022. The Cedar Rapids, Iowa native posted the best year of her career in 2023, earning All-CCS Third Team honors for her performance in the women's javelin toss at the conference meet. Thus far in 2024, she has set a new personal best in the women's hammer toss with a distance of 28.04m. In the classroom, Greubel has excelled as she has earned All-Academic honors twice in career. Wren plans to graduate in the spring of 2024 with a double major in neuroscience and psychology with a minor in chemistry.

NICK GRIFFIN | LOGANVILLE, GA

Griffin has been with the program since 2021, seeing action in both indoor and outdoor meets since joining the program. He played a part in the Piedmont DMR team claiming the win at the D3 Atlantic Indoor Championships in 2022 and also went on to earn Third Team All-Conference honors at the USA South meet that same year. Nick plans to graduate in the spring of 2025 with a degree in nursing.

GARY HALVERSON | ALPHARETTA, GA

Halverson is a five-year member of the program and has been a staple in the distance events since arriving in Demorest. In 2021, he earned USTFCCCA Indoor All-Region honors in the men's mile while also earning all-conference honors in the 1500m. After earning all-conference once again in 2022, Halverson claimed the 2023 CCS Championship in the 1500m. In addition to his titles and awards, he also holds multiple Piedmont records including the men's indoor mile (4:14.37), indoor 3000m (8:39.11), outdoor 1500m (3:58.19) and outdoor 5000m (15:19.02). He also ran a leg of the record-breaking DMR time. Getting the job done in the classroom, Halverson was named to the CCS All-Academic Team in 2023. Gary plans to graduate in the spring of 2024 with a degree in fine arts.

ABBY MAUDLIN | HIAWASSEE, GA

Mauldin is a three-year member of the program, competing of the field side of the women's program as a thrower since arriving in 2022. Steadily improving over her years, she posted three career-best distances in 2023 and tossed her best hammer distance of her career earlier this season. In the classroom, Mauldin earned USA South All-Academic team honors in 2022. Abby plans to graduate in the spring of 2024 with a degree in psychology.

WES ROGERS | DOUGLASVILLE, GA

The senior from Douglasville has been a four-year pole vaulter for the Lions, earning conference awards since arriving in Demorest. During his freshman campaign, Rogers earned USA South All-Conference Second Team honors while also being named Field Rookie of the Week twice during the season. He went on to repeat his success in 2022, once again earning second team honors before finally capturing the CCS Pole Vault title in 2023. A standout student, Rogers has been named to the conference all-academic team every year he has been with the program. Wes plans to graduate in the spring of 2024 with a double major in sociology & anthropology and psychology.

SAM SEYMOUR | SAVANNAH, GA

Seymour has been a huge part of the women's program since arriving four years ago. The Savannah native claimed USA South First Team All-Conference honors her freshman year before going on to have a stellar 2022 season. During that time, Seymour played a key role in breaking the program record in the women's DMR. Last season, she claimed CCS All-Conference honors for her work in the high jump and long jump at the conference meet. Now in her final season, she has set a new career-best in the triple jump as she will look to repeat her previous success at the conference meet. Sam plans to graduate in the spring of 2024 with a degree in health science with a nutrition concentration.

NAKIYAH WASHINGTON | ADAIRSVILLE, GA

In her fifth year competing with the outdoor women's program, Washington has become a powerhouse on the throws side of the program. Not seeing any action in 2020 due to the coronavirus, the Adairsville native saw her first action in 2021 where she earned USA South First Team honors for her work in the women's shot put and claimed the Piedmont school record in the event. After a quiet third year, Washington re-emerged onto the scene in 2023, posting three top-three finishes at the CCS Championship, earning him multiple All-CCS honors. Now in 2024, Washington turned back the clock, breaking the shot put record she had originally set almost four years ago. Getting the job done in the classroom as well, she has been named to the conference all-academic team three times in her career. Nakiyah plans to graduate in the spring of 2024 with an M.A. in education.
