Strong Fourth Quarter Seals Men's Lacrosse Win 14-7 at Methodist

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Piedmont men's lacrosse team used a strong fourth quarter to secure an impressive 14-7 win at Methodist Saturday. The Lions led 8-5 heading to the fourth where they outscored the Monarchs 6-2 to end the contest. 

Piedmont put up three goals to start the contest before surrendering one in the opening period. Isaac Harrington put up the first goal for the Lions as he was on fire Saturday accounting for six of Piedmont's 14 goals. 

Methodist used a 3-0 run of its own to tie up the contest early in the second period using back-to-back goals inside of 40 seconds. Brady McGuire capitalized off a feed from Will Isley to reclaim the lead with 10:25 to go till the half, but it was short lived as the Monarchs again tied it at 4. 

Two goals before the half gave Piedmont a 6-4 edge at the break, before adding another to make it 7-4 early in the third. It was a slow third with Piedmont adding a pair of goals while Methodist tacked on one to enter the fourth with Piedmont leading 8-5. 

Harrington had a pair of goals entering the fourth period and scored four of Piedmont's six in the quarter. McGuire added three assists in the fourth quarter as well. 

Up next, the Lions will face Brevard on the road Wednesday, April 24 at 6 p.m.

TURNING POINT:
--The Lions were in front but a 6-2 advantage in the final period proved to be the deciding factor. 

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
--Isaac Harrington continued his dominance in league play with a game-high six goals. 
--Johnny Matrona played all 60 minutes posting 14 saves to seven goals against. 

IN THE RECORD BOOKS:
- Matrona's win in goal gives him the Piedmont career record in the category.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: 
--This matchup featured Piedmont taking on former assistant coach Ryan McKay, now head coach at Methodist.
