Aly Reece Breaks Records as Lions Takes Down Brevard to Remain Undefeated in USA South Play

DEMOREST, Ga.. - The Piedmont women's lacrosse team took down Brevard to remain undefeated in USA South play as junior Aly Reece broke two program records on the way to the 22-5 win.

In the first quarter, Piedmont got off to a hot start, racing out to a 10-1 lead. The Lions scored nine straight to start the contest with Reece adding five assists in the first nine goals. Reece ended the game with 10 total assists, breaking her own program record mark from earlier this season for most assists in a single game. She also set the record for the most assists in a single season with her seventh of the game, eclipsing the previous mark of 48 in a single season set by Merryn Bumpass a year ago.

The Lions took a 14-2 lead into half time after adding four goals in the second period and again surrendering just one. Junior Ava Trankina, junior Merryn Bumpass and senior Maggi Spratlin all recorded hat tricks in the contest by the break.

The scoring slowed in the second half with the Lions adding three in the third quarter and five additionally in the fourth period. 

Kellianne Schlosser earned the win playing the opening half before Rachel Verner took over for the second half. 

Three Lions ended the day with four goals each as Trankina, Spratlin and Savannah Limehouse all posted solid offensive nights. Lovette Choloh and Bumpass both added hat tricks as well.

Up next, Piedmont travels to face Methodist in a crucial USA South match up on Saturday, April 20. 

TURNING POINT:
--Piedmont blitzed the Tornados early, posting ten goals in the first period while surrendering just one goal.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
--Aly Reece posted 10 assists and 1 goal in the contest, breaking the single game record for the Lions. 
--Savannah Limehouse caused 4 turnovers while adding 4 goals, 1 assist and 3 ground balls.
--Ava Trankina scored 4 goals and added 2 assists while collecting 5 draw controls.
--Merryn Bumpass and Lovette Choloh both had hat tricks.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
--The Lions caused 17 turnovers to just the 8 from Brevard.
--Piedmont posted 32 shots while holding the Tornados to just 12.
