MARYVILLE, Tenn. - Piedmont women's tennis delivered another 9-0 CCS sweep on Sunday afternoon, rolling past Maryville, which was previously undefeated in league play.
In the process, the Lions clinched the No. 1 seed for the upcoming CCS Tournament and clinched the CCS Regular Season Title for the second straight season.
Senior
Dakota Wilkes set the new Piedmont program record with her 59th career singles win.
Piedmont was dominant in all three doubles matches and was able to blitz the Scots from the start.
Marion Sloyan and
Bri Laidman did not drop a single game at No. 2 as the Lions took the first point. Then, it was
Abbey Grace Venham and freshman
Brooklyn Bolch who clinched an 8-1 win at No. 3 to make it 2-0. Finally, the No. 1 team of Wilkes and
Alyssa McSpadden completed the sweep in doubles with an 8-3 victory.
With the Lions needing just two points to clinch the match, Piedmont pushed ahead and took the win rather quickly, winning all six singles matches in straight sets.
Wilkes clinched first, setting the overall career singles wins record in dominant fashion, not dropping a single game at No. 2. Then, it was McSpadden who delivered the regular season clinching victory, prevailing 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3. The victory gives her 99 combined victories in her career with her junior season still not in the books.
Once again, Sloyan was up to the task at the top spot, winning 6-2, 6-4 to make it 6-0 in favor of the Lions. After being pushed in the opening set, Laidman took care of business in the second for a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 4.
Rounding things out, freshman
Kenzie Imsand rolled to a perfect 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 before sophomore
Jordan Ballard concluded the festivities with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 5.
