ATLANTA, Ga. - The Piedmont University track and field program traveled to Atlanta for the Emory Thrills in the Hills on Friday and Saturday afternoons. The meet was highlighted by sophomore Silas Goolsby winning the 110m hurdles as the Lions also picked up multiple top five finishes in other events.

The Dacula native turned in a winning time of 15.20 in the men's 110m hurdles with a +2.0 wind factor. His time placed him securely in first with the next closest competitor nearly .5 seconds behind. In addition to his win, Goolsby also placed fifth in the men's 200m dash. 

Fellow sophomore Michelle Cates made the finals of the women's 100m dash, placing sixth in the event (16.85). Freshman Brooke Benna and senior Cortney Brown narrowly missed the finals, placing ninth (17.41) and tenth (17.53) in the prelims. Brown earned additional top ten finish in the women's 100m and women's javelin, placing seventh with a 13.65 in the 100m and fifth with a 34.21m in the javelin.

In the men's 400m hurdles, junior Garrett Stadler placed second with a time of 55.20. On the women's side of the event, Cates once again made a statement, placing seventh with a 1:11.06. Bella Caccamo also finished top ten, turning in a time of 1:16.93 for tenth place.

Freshman Johnny Taylor placed ninth in the men's triple jump with a best distance of 12.12m. 

In the women's triple jump, senior Kai Doyle recorded a fourth place finish (4.77m) while freshman Allison Cantrell placed tenth with a 4.50m.

The top five finishes continued to roll in for the Lions. Senior Chris Donsereaux placed third in the men's 100m finals (10.78m) while fellow senior Gary Halverson also placed third in the men's 1500m (4:00.46). Additionally, senior Walker Capelle placed third in the men's 3000m with a time of 9:26.55. 

In the longest event of the day, sophomore Hannah Marlowe placed sixth in the women's 5000m with a 20:28.63.

Freshman Matthew Blocksom turned in an eighth place finish with a best distance of 36.66m in the men's discus. Also finishing in eighth place, freshman Ethan Butler-Paige tossed a best distance of 43.37m in the men's javelin. 

In a pair of top five finishes, junior Allie Feltus placed third in the women's discus with a distance of 35.06m while senior Nakiyah Washington placed fifth (33.19m). Washington also placed third in the women's shot put (11.20m), with freshman Kayla Ward placing behind her in eighth place (9.91m).

Earning a third place finish in the women's hammer toss, junior Abby Mauldin placed third with a best distance of 34.26m. Directly behind her was sophomore Whitney Darsey with a distance of 31.75m in fourth and senior Reaghan Andersonin in sixth (30.84m).

In the Steeple Chase events, junior Tucker Cox placed fourth (10:36.19) on the men's side while junior Peter Sligh placed eighth (11:47.25). On the women's side, sophomore Skyler Seeber secured fourth place with a 12:25.87.

On the relay side, the team of Stalder, Donsereaux, Goolsby and Zane Smith claimed fifth (3:27.61) on the men's side while Brooks, Caccamo, Doyle and Sam Seymour teamed up for a fifth place finish as well (4:26.41).
