DEMOREST, Ga. - In a game that was a pitcher's duel through the first five innings, Piedmont baseball broke it open late on its way to a 6-2 win over Wooster Wednesday.
The Lions were able to use a strong start from
Bodie Eilertson who pitched six innings without allowing a run with just one hit surrendered to the Fighting Scots. Eilertson tied a career-high with nine strikeouts in the contest.
Piedmont likewise had just two hits in the game until the sixth inning when the Lions scored four runs on two hits.
Isaak Mullanack capitalized with two on for a 3-run shot to left field for his first home run of the season.
Piedmont added another run in the frame to lead 4-0 after the sixth.
Tyner Simpson pitched the seventh inning for Piedmont and worked out of a jam after putting two on with no outs. The Lions added two more runs in the bottom of the seventh after none other than Mullanack drove them in with a triple. He finished a double shy of the cycle with a 3-for-3 night with a walk.
Justin Manus pitched 1.2 innings but allowed a pair of runs in the ninth driving Head Coach
Justin Scali to bring in the closer
Braden Simms. Simms earned his fifth save of the season without officially facing a batter as a pick off ended the game.
Up next, Piedmont heads to Christopher Newport for a weekend series beginning Friday.
