NEED TO KNOW:
Score: Emory 7, Piedmont 5
Record: Piedmont, 9-6

DEMOREST, Ga. - A hot start for the Emory Eagles proved to be too much for the Piedmont baseball team as the Lions dropped game two of the series 7-5 to the Eagles Saturday.

The loss evens up the series at 1-1 with the clincher coming on Sunday at the Milkjug.

Emory jumped on the board with three runs in the first after a two-run home run and an RBI single. In the third inning, Emory once again had a two run home run to make it 5-0 Eagles after three.

Piedmont had just one hit in each of the first three innings. The Eagles tacked on single runs in each the fourth and fifth innings but Piedmont was finally able to answer in the fourth.

Owen Helgesen drove in Tyler Nelson for the first Piedmont run of the game, but in the sixth inning, the Lions started to show more life.

In the sixth, Piedmont added three runs on three hits and chased Emory's starter after Trace Cate hit an RBI single and Kyle Carlson was walked to load the bases with two outs.

The Lions have had success with two out rallies at home this season and Isaak Mullanack came through in the sixth with a 2-RBI single making it 7-4.

Piedmont added another run in the seventh despite not recording a hit and threatened with a single hit in both the eighth and ninth innings, but could not capitalize.

Zeke Swartz took the loss moving to 1-1 on the season while Lucas Tritt pitched a solid 3.1 innings of work allowing one earned run and three hits. Jackson Randolph kept the Lions in it late with two innings on the mound facing the minimum and adding three strikeouts.

Up next, Piedmont will host Emory for the series finale on Sunday at 2 p.m.

TURNING POINT:
--Emory's offense was explosive early with a pair of home runs in the first and third innings helping to solidify the victory.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
