DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont baseball team rallied in the bottom of the ninth but it was not enough in a 5-4 loss to Methodist Monday. Piedmont took the series 2-1 over the Monarchs outscoring Methodist 25-11.
Methodist took the lead in the second inning but Piedmont was able to get in front in the third with two runs on two hits and an error. A
Nathan Mix double scored the first and he was then driven home by lead-off hitter
Cody Funk.Â
Leading 2-1 after three, Piedmont was unable to hold onto it in the fourth as two errors proved costly with Methodist plating three runs to lead 4-2, though just one of those was earned.Â
Methodist added one more run in the seventh but it was not until the ninth inning that the Lions were able to attempt a comeback.
Braden Simms entered in the top of the ninth and worked a 1-2-3 inning to give Piedmont a chance.Â
Back-to-back singles started the inning, then with one out,
Cruz Mullinix singled to bring home pinch runner
Matt Dupuis. Trailing 5-3, Mix hit his second double of the day bringing around another run, but the top of the order was unable to complete the comeback.Â
Piedmont had just seven hits in the game to the Monarchs' 12.Â
Up next, Piedmont will host Emory on Friday, March 15 at 6 p.m.
TURNING POINT:
--A ninth inning rally was unable to be completed as Piedmont scored two in the bottom of the ninth off four hits.Â

Nathan Mix was 2-for-4 with two RBI as both of his hits were timely doubles.Â
