DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont University baseball team's offense continued to thrill Sunday in a 12-2 victory over Wilmington. The win completed the weekend sweep as the Lions move back to .500 on the season.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third inning when the Piedmont offense came to life. The Lions tacked on three runs on four hits as
Kolton Hicks,
Trace Cate and
Tyler Nelson recorded RBI hits in the inning.
In the top of the fourth, the Quakers would plate a run, but that would be the only one of the contest for them until the top of the ninth.
Adam Metivier went six innings for Piedmont allowing just one run and struck out five.
Piedmont went back to work in the bottom of the fourth with another three spot to take a decisive 6-1 advantage after four. The Lions were not done however adding a run in the fifth before another big spot in the sixth.
The Lions added five runs on two hits in the sixth combined with three walks and a hit by pitch.
Owen Helgesen added the final runs of the inning and the game for the Lions with a bases clearing double to make it 12-1.
Piedmont totaled nine walks in the contest off six pitchers for the Quakers.
Up next, Piedmont will host Oglethorpe Tuesday at 6 p.m.
