DEMOREST, Ga. - Piedmont women's tennis returned to the home courts for the first time in 2024 and delivered a 9-0 sweep of former conference foe Brevard on Tuesday afternoon in Demorest.

The Lions began the day with a doubles sweep, and then carried the momentum into singles action, winning 5-of-6 lines in straight sets before Marion Sloyan finished off a third-set match tiebreaker to keep the shutout intact.

Starting off the day, the No. 3 doubles team of Dannie Evans and Sloyan cruised 8-2 to make it 1-0 while Abbey Grace Venham and Bri Laidman won, 8-3, at No. 1 minutes later. Then, in the only closely contested doubles match, the No. 2 doubles team of Alyssa McSpadden and Brooklyn Bolch were forced into a tiebreaker but dominated the breaker to win 8-7 (3) and give Piedmont a 3-0 lead heading into singles.

The Lions continued to roll in singles, with Dakota Wilkes making it 4-0 with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 2. Then, it was sophomore Jordan Ballard who delivered the clinch with a clinical 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 6.

McSpadden (6-2, 6-1) cruised at No. 3 while Laidman (6-4, 6-1) won a hard-fought first set before dominating the second as Evans (6-4, 6-1) did the same at No. 4.

Finally, it was Sloyan who finished off the opening day festivities with a 10-5 win in a third-set match breaker after dropping her second set at No. 1.

Up next, the Lions will play two matches tomorrow, with one group taking on Truet McConnell on the road at 1 p.m. while another will host Agnes Scott at 4 p.m. in the team's first CCS match of the season.
