Men's Lacrosse Holds off Hendrix for 11-10 Win in Nashville

NEED TO KNOW:
Score: Piedmont 11, Hendrix 10
Records: Piedmont, 3-0; Hendrix, 0-1

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Piedmont men's lacrosse team survived a late scare to defeat Hendrix 11-10 on Saturday afternoon in Nashville.

The win continues the hot start to the season for the Lions, who are now 3-0 to begin a season for the first time since 2014.

The wealth was spread among a number of players, as eight different Lions accounted for the team's 11 goals. Isaac Harrington, Nick Winter and Jacob Hasbrouck each had two while Winter also added an assist.

Fresh off a career-high 23 saves in the dramatic win over Berry last weekend, goalie Johnny Matrona added 12 saves on Saturday.

The Lions used a 4-0 scoring barrage capped by two straight from Hasbrouck to build a solid 7-2 lead early in the second quarter. That proved to be enough as Hendrix saw its comeback effort fall just short.

Although the Lions were held scoreless for the final 10:04 of the game, the defense was stout, allowing just two goals in the fourth quarter to hold off the comeback attempt.

Up next, the Lions will conclude the Music City Classic with a matchup against Illinois Tech tomorrow at 12 p.m.

TURNING POINT:
- Piedmont's 4-0 run to end the first quarter and begin the second gave it a 7-2 lead that was never relinquished.
