Lions Suffer Road Loss at No. 3 Emory

NEED TO KNOW:
Score: No. 8 Emory 103, Piedmont 74
Records: Piedmont, 3-2; Emory, 5-0

ATLANTA - Piedmont men's basketball was unable to contain No. 3 Emory in a 103-74 loss on Tuesday night in Atlanta.

The Eagles blitzed the Lions in the early going, using  a 10-0 run from the 15:47 mark to the 13:43 mark to jump ahead by 10 points. From that point on, the Lions were unable to recover, with Emory continuing to separate the rest of the way.

Sophomore Israel Hall continued his strong play to start the season for Piedmont, leading the team with a career-high 18 points on career-best 12-of-15 from the free throw line. Javi Marlowe produced a solid all-around performance, scoring just eight points but adding six rebounds, four assists, four blocks and three steals.

Dylan Patrick and Bailey Wiseman each tallied 11 points while Silas Mulligan added 10 points off the bench, making 8-of-9 from the foul line.

Although the final outcome was never in doubt, Piedmont kept attacking the basket, earning 25 free throw attempts in the second half alone and converting 22 of them.

Emory had five players in double figures and made 12-of-20 from beyond the arc in the first half, helping them build a lead the Lions could not overcome.

Up next, Piedmont will be back in action at home against a tough N.C. Wesleyan squad next Monday, December 2 at 12:00 p.m. as part of Education Day inside Cave Arena.

TURNING POINT:
- Emory's hot first-half shooting buried the Lions into a double digit first half deficit early in the contest.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Hall has now scored in double figures in three straight games off the bench.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Although the Lions were held to just 4-of-17 from three-point range, they made a season-high 32 free throws in 42 attempts.
