Hill's Perfect Shooting Night Lifts Piedmont Past Berea 73-59

NEED TO KNOW:
Score: Piedmont 73, Berea 59
Records: Piedmont, 3-3; Berea, 2-2

DEMOREST, Ga. - In its most complete all-around performance of the young season, Piedmont women's basketball controlled the game from start-to-finish in a 73-59 win against Berea in the home opener at Cave Arena Monday evening.

Andelin Hill delivered her third consecutive double-double, shooting a perfect 8-of-8 from the floor on her way to a career-best 20 points along with a team-high 12 rebounds. Ashley Scott pitched in with 15 points including the put away three-pointer in the final seconds.

Sophomore Alexandria Willis controlled the paint, with a season-high 13 points while adding eight reobunds and a career-high four assists while junior Hayley Borino delivered a solid overall performance, adding 11 points to go with four assists, three rebounds and three steals.

This marks Piedmont's second consecutive win over Berea, with both coming inside Cave Arena.

Piedmont jumped out to a quick 7-2 start against the Mountaineers. However, Berea quickly regained its footing and reeled off a quick 10-2 run of its own to lead 12-10.

But the back-and-forth of the opening quarter was not done, with the Lions ending the period with an 8-3 run to head into the second quarter leading 18-15.

Although the Mountaineers quickly knotted the score at 18 apiece in the opening minute of the second quarter, Scott answered immediately with a three-pointer to give the Lions the lead back and from there, they held the lead the rest of the way.

Piedmont was able to push the lead to 10 points at 30-20 and went into the locker room ahead 35-29.

The third quarter saw Piedmont keep control of the contest, not letting Berea within five points and leading by as many as 12 as Hill and Willis began to control the paint.

It was an anticlimactic final quarter as the Lions shut down any thoughts of a Berea late rally thanks to a 14-4 rebounding margin over the final 10 minutes. Hill reached her new career high with three field goals while Scott made two big three-pointers and Kennedi Henson added one late, which put the Lions up a game-high 15 points with just under three minutes to go.

Up next, the Lions will be off until Saturday, December 7 when they open conference play with a road game against Agnes Scott at 2 p.m.

TURNING POINT:
- Consistent offense proved to be the difference, with the Lions gradually increasing their lead throughout the contest. Piedmont won each quarter by at least two points scoring between 17 and 19 points in each of the four.
