DECATUR, Ga. - Piedmont women's basketball returned to the court for the first time in over a week and delivered a 79-44 rout in the CCS opener at Agnes Scott on Saturday afternoon.
The Lions left no doubt from the start, running away with a 29-point first quarter and 28-point second quarter that was too much for the Scotties to overcome.
All 15 members of Piedmont's roster saw action on Saturday, with no player logging more than 20 minutes of action. Overall, 11 different players scored for the Lions, led by a season-high 16 points from junior
Brooklyn Begley, who also connected on a career-high four three-pointers.
Ashley Scott matched Begley in going 4-of-7 from downtown while adding in 15 points in just 15 minutes of action. Two-time CCS Player of the Week
Andelin Hill was impactful in limited minutes, scoring just six points, but adding six rebounds and four assists.
Although the Scotties held their own early, leading 10-9 midway through the first quarter, the Lions then ripped off an 18-2 run to close out the quarter. The three-point line was crucial in the opening quarter, with Piedmont knocking down four shots from deep.
Piedmont was able to push the lead to 20 points in the opening minute of the second quarter and continued to pull away, taking a 57-19 lead to the break.
Although Agnes Scott was able to hang with the Lions in the second half, the Piedmont lead was insurmountable as the outcome was never in doubt in the second half.
Up next, the Lions will have a week off before traveling to Rocky Mount for a pair of games next weekend, beginning Saturday, Dec. 14 at 2 p.m. against Southern Va.
TURNING POINT:
- Piedmont delivered an 18-2 run in the final five minutes of the opening quarter to create a double digit lead that was pushed to a 38-point halftime advantage.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Begley delivered a season-best 16 points on Saturday, and finished just one shy of matching her career high of 17, set last season against Agnes Scott.
- Begley did connect on a career-high four three-pointers.

Ashley Scott added 15 points in 15 minutes, knocking down a season-high four shots from three-point range.

Riley Bryan totaled a season-high 12 points as just three Lions scored in double figures.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Piedmont pulled down a ridiculously high 61 total rebounds, including 25 offensive boards.
- The Lions forced 32 Agnes Scott turnovers, converting them into 31 points.
