Men's Basketball Breaks Scoring Record vs. Greenville in 131-128 Win

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - In a record-setting game for Piedmont men's basketball, the Lions won a thriller 131-128 over Greenville while setting the single-game scoring record as a team. In total, eight Lions were in double figures while four student-athletes posted career-high point totals. 

The four Lions with career-highs in the contest were Dylan Patrick, Israel Hall, Trip Thompson and Arturo Overton.

Piedmont trailed at the break 66-62 as 128 points were scored in the first half alone. The Lions led by 13, 50-37, with 5:49 to play until halftime, but a 17-4 run by the Panthers tied the contest at 54.

Piedmont again built a large lead in the second half, pulling ahead by 15 at the 11:13 mark leading 94-79. Piedmont scored 100 with 9:40 remaining in the contest and broke the scoring record with 2:14 remaining in the game.

The Panthers clawed back over the final 10 minutes and tied the game with 2:48 to play. The two exchanged baskets over the final minutes with Piedmont's Dylan Patrick scoring with 20 seconds remaining to put the Lions up 129-128. 

Javi Marlowe was fouled following Greenville's ensuing possession and banked both free throws to give the Lions the 131-128 lead. The defense was able to keep the Panthers off the board on the final possession and claim the victory.

Greenville totaled 20 3-pointers to Piedmont's nine as the Panthers were 20-of-58 from 3-point range. 

Up next, the Lions will continue action at Covenant against Rhodes on Saturday. 

TURNING POINT:
--The Lions were able to hold on the final possession for the Panthers to secure the win. 
 
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
--Piedmont's leading scorer was Dylan Patrick with 22 points as eight Lions ended in double figures. 
--Every Lion who entered the contest scored. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
--The 131 points for the Lions are the most in a single game, breaking the previous record set on November 14, 2023 against Warren Wilson.
