DECATUR, Ga. - Piedmont volleyball earned the season sweep against Agnes Scott with a 3-0 win on the road Wednesday. The win gives the Lions six wins in conference play as they are 6-8 in league play heading into the final contests of the regular season.
Though Piedmont was able to secure a sweep of the Scotties, the first two sets were close. Agnes Scott jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the opening set before the Lions settled in.
The Lions played from behind in the first set, trailing 20-15 down the stretch. Piedmont used a 9-0 run to end the first set 25-21 and take the victory. That run included just two kills for Piedmont and seven errors for the Scotties.
In the second set, it was once against the Scotties who took an early advantage 7-3, forcing the Lions to play from behind. This time, the Lions were able to take the lead earlier, 19-17, and held on despite the Scotties tying it at 22.
Piedmont claimed that set 25-22 taking the final three points before leaving no doubt in the third set with a 25-11 victory.
Katie Hubbard led Piedmont with 9 kills while
Jessica Sconyers and
Mary Brit Tallevast added six each.
Vanessa Manzo totaled 28 assists while adding 10 digs as
Natalie Adams-Mullis led Piedmont with 13 digs.
Up next, the Lions will head to Huntingdon for the final tri-match of the season taking on the Hawks and Asbury on Saturday.
