Women's Soccer Celebrates Five Seniors, Falls 3-0 to Maryville

NEED TO KNOW:
Score: Maryville 3, Piedmont 0
Records: Maryville, 11-2-4 (8-0 CCS); Piedmont, 7-5-4 (5-2-1 CCS)

DEMOREST, Ga. - Piedmont women's soccer was unable to spoil Maryville's perfect CCS season, falling 3-0 at the hands of the Scots on Friday night.

The evening was highlighted by the honoring of five Piedmont seniors prior to the contest as Chloe Spradlin, Victoria Sierra, Ayndi Wimmer, Sophie Wells and Haylee Dornan were honored for their contributions to the program.

Unfortunately, the Scots were able to stun the Lions out of the gate, scoring within the first minute of play on a beautiful curled shot from outside the box by Madison McDonald.

Then, less than 10 minutes later, Sierra Lee poured in her CCS-leading 14th goal of the season off a cross into the box from Hannah Smoot.

Maryville was able to add on to the lead as Lee struck again in the 24th minute off another cross inside the 18 from Elle Fair.

However, from there, the Lions saw their defense stand up, holding the Scots scoreless the rest of the way.

The second half saw Piedmont settle in and create a few scoring chances, as the Lions won the shot count in the final 45 minutes 7-4.

Unable to convert any of the looks they created, the Lions fell in shutout fashion 3-0 as Maryville goalkeeper Sydney Mahr made five saves in the second half.

Up next, the Lions will await their seeding for the upcoming Collegiate Conference of the South Tournament. The team will either be the No. 2 or No. 3 seed and will host at least one game at the Walker Athletic Complex.

TURNING POINT:
- The Scots stunned the Lions with a goal in the first minute and another in the eighth to build an insurmountable lead.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- The Lions held a 6-5 edge over the Scots in shots on goal.
