Women's Soccer Sees Late Rally Fall Short in 3-2 Loss at Asbury

NEED TO KNOW:
Score: Asbury 3, Piedmont 2
Records: Piedmont, 6-4-3 (4-1 CCS); Asbury, 6-4-4 (3-1-1 CCS)

WILMORE, Ky. - Piedmont women's soccer saw its second half rally fall short in a 3-2 loss at new CCS foe Asbury on Thursday afternoon in Kentucky.

The Eagles scored the first three goals of the contest before the Lions responded with two second half goals to put a scare into Asbury late.

Unfortunately, the equalizer could not be found, as the Eagles held on for the win.

Asbury struck first on Anna Sparks' first of two goals on the day, coming in the 16th minute before Caroline Absher quickly made it 2-0 with a 26th minute goal.

Out of the halftime break, Sparks struck again, seemingly putting the game out of reach in the 49th minute by finishing off of a rebound and save.

However, Piedmont was able to claw back into the contest as freshman Addi Banks netted her first goal of the season in the 58th minute.

Then, in the 85th, it was junior Paige Kluba who continued her great run of goal scoring, finding her fifth of the season.

Athough the Lions' undefeated run in conference play is over, they will have an opportunity to bounce back with another road contest, taking on Covenant this Saturday, October 19 at 2 p.m.

TURNING POINT:
- Asbury's early second half goal turned out be necessary as the Lions scored twice in the second half to make it a 3-2 final.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:'
- Kluba is now tied for the team lead with five goals and has scored in four of the team's past five contests.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Piedmont's newcomer in goal Hannah Thompson made four saves.
