Men's Basketball Unable to Overcome Slow Start in 95-81 Loss to Huntingdon

DEMOREST, Ga. - After a slow start, the Piedmont men's basketball team was unable to mount a comeback Saturday in a 95-81 loss to Huntingdon. 

Huntingdon was in control early and led 21-8 through the first 10 minutes of play. Jaylen Washington was electric for the Hawks as he scored 15 points, all from 3-point range including four in the first half.

At the break, Piedmont trailed 50-32 and the largest deficit of the game came early in the second half when the Hawks pulled ahead by 23, 55-32.

Piedmont began to chip away at the lead in the second half and cut it to 10 at 66-56 with 12:44 remaining. The Lions would get as close as seven multiple times over the final 10 minutes of action, but that was the closest they would manage. 

Noah Reardon led Piedmont with 24 points while four total Lions scored in double figures. Joe Helenbrook led the way with 12 rebounds. 

Up next, the Lions will host Belhaven on Saturday, January 16 at 4 p.m.

TURNING POINT:
--Late in the game, Piedmont got it to a seven point game 89-81 with 2:54 to play but the Lions would not score again in the contest. 

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
--Noah Reardon scored a season-high 24 points in the contest with back-to-back 20+ point performances. 

NEWS AND NOTES:
--Ryan Jolly was held to 17 points, his third lowest point total of the season through 14 games.
